What to wear + Fort Worth, Tx + Fort Worth Senior Photography

One of the most important aspects of your photo session: your outfits! The clothes you pick will make or break your entire theme, personality, or vision for your session. I want to work with you to help guide you to make the best fashion choices that fit your style.

Be comfortable

First and foremost, pick outfits and accessories in which you feel comfortable! If you are uncomfortable, it will show in every single image. You need to feel free to be you and show your personality. If your outfit inhibits your ability to be you, then choose something else. In the same thought, if you have a particular part of your body that makes you self-conscious, then don't pick an article of clothing that accentuates that area. For example, if you don't like the way your arms look, then don't pick a sleeveless shirt or dress. Remember, this experience is all about you expressing yourself! I want to create an environment in which you feel comfortable doing so.

Think classic

These portraits are going to turn into heirlooms and something priceless. In 50 years, when you and your grandchildren look at the photograph hanging on the wall, you do not want to ask yourself, "What was I wearing?!?" Trends change. People change. One of your outfits should be a look that has stood the test of time. Consider a little black dress or a cocktail dress. Think Audrey Hepburn or Mrs. Kennedy. Solid colors or the timeless polkadot print have lasted decades. The same idea works for guys. Think nice slacks and a solid button up or slacks or jeans with a solid pea coat and scarf. Think Bond. James Bond. Dr. Who, as played by David Tennant, is a great example, too!

Layer

Layers! Layers! Layers! Let me repeat myself: wear layers!! Multiple layers add depth and interest to your outfit. Think scarves (oh, how I love, love, love scarves), jackets, vests, and leggings or tights. If you don't layer, don't be surprised if I bring out a scarf from my trunk of goodies!

Accessorize

This matches the idea of layering. Accessories also add depth to your outfit. This is the one place where you should get slightly out of your comfort zone, because if your choices just are not working during our session, it is a quick and easy fix. Pick one of your outfits and add a hat, crown, or headpiece. Think floppy hat, flower crown, or ornate headband. These pieces are absolutely gorgeous in photographs, and they are fun pieces that we do not normally wear everyday. Are you a guy? Think a fedora, a bowler hat, or a slouchy beanie. Then pick an outfit and choose a scarf, tie, or necklace. Work your way through all three outfits and add fun accessories!

Hair, Makeup, & Nails

During our consult appointment, I will suggest my preferred stylist for your hair and makeup. Yes, even if you are a guy! Be sure that she knows your style. If you are more comfortable in light colors, then let her know. If you are more of a bold lipstick kind of girl, then let her know that. I want you to love your hair and makeup, so tell her what you prefer.

Guys, please make sure that you are clean shaven or freshly groomed.

Guys and girls: make sure that your nails are freshly groomed. No chipping paint. No paint is better than chipped paint. Consider making the entire day a day to pamper yourself. Go get a pedicure and manicure before your hair and makeup appointment. Guys, yes, this goes for you. Lots of big name stars get their nails professionally manicured prior to shows. And, oh! The massage feels great.
