Traveling with Preschoolers: A Hotel Hack

Preparing for our trek across the country and knowing that we would stay in hotels and in friends’ guest rooms, I started scrolling through my mental rolodex for all my packing and travel hacks.

You know those busy school mornings where you can’t find little Junior’s shoes or little Lassie’s backpack suddenly vanishes into oblivion? Staying in a hotel easily tops that. All the planning goes out the window and we can’t find anything. Our room easily looked like a Forever21 dressing room at the end of back to school sale.

Our suitcases exploded in our rooms. And we have preschoolers!

We we wanted to do better.

I knew we filled our schedule, and I wanted to make the most of our downtime - naps and adventures, not stressing over where to find the flip flops or shoving clothes in a bag.

I wanted to reduce our travel stresses.

One of the hotel problems I always have is where to put the dirty clothes! I could put them in the laundry bag provided by some hotels, but I couldn't be sure it would always be available. Recently, one set of clothes shoved in a bag did not make it... mold quickly ruined the clothes.

My solution?

My kiddos had two of these collapsable baskets that fit perfectly in a carry-on size bag. We tossed all our clothes in here and then took them to the laundromat so that we could pack fewer clothes.

It worked for us and helped us keep our hotel room and bags a little more organized.
